More About CoffeeXperts
Introduction
Since 2001, CoffeeXperts has shown how craft and innovation shine together in a cup of coffee. The West Frisian company grew from a small shop in Hoorn into a respected specialty roastery in Enkhuizen. This short journey outlines the milestones, techniques, and plans that offer inspiration to every coffee professional.
From Shop to World Champion
Founders Jan and Tosca Schuitemaker registered the company on 1 October 2001 and opened the shop “De Mélangerie” on 20 February 2002. The first in-house roast followed on 13 March 2005. Success soon arrived: the shop won the Retail Jaarprijs audience award in 2007, and Jan took the title in 2009 at the first, still unofficial, World Coffee Roasting Championship in Cologne. Those recognitions became the springboard to a full focus on coffee roasting.
At the end of 2009, production moved to a separate location in Enkhuizen and the shop was sold. From that moment, everything revolved around quality in the cup, training, and wholesale. The family feeling remained, but the scale and expertise grew quickly.
Technology with a Green Heart
In 2013 CoffeeXperts became the first Dutch roaster to invest in a 35 kg Loring roaster. This smart machine incinerates smoke internally and reduces gas use by around 80 percent. In 2020 a 7 kg Loring S7 Nighthawk was added for micro-lots, making the company unique with two Lorings under one roof. The combination provides flexibility: large volumes and experimental batches each get their own perfect curve.
Cropster software monitors every roast, while the patented Flavor Lock system keeps the beans smoke-free. That combination yields clean, pronounced flavors. Small, demand-driven batches of 1–2 kg often go out the door within a few days, so cafés always serve fresh beans.
Assortment Full of Character
The offering consists of Italian espresso blends and transparent single origins. Customers especially appreciate three house blends with a perfect 5.0 score:
- Espresso Vesuvio
- Espresso Alla Milanese
- Espresso Italiano
- Espresso Vesuvio
- Espresso Alla Milanese
- Espresso Italiano
The region is honored with West Friesche Brand, a 100% Arabica blend with notes of bittersweet chocolate, hazelnut, almond, caramel, and a hint of citrus. Cappuccino Melange combines Brazil, Costa Rica, Guatemala, and Ethiopia for a rich flavor that cuts through milk. Single origins often carry the "Future Proof" label, such as Peru Amazonas or a decaf Colombia, to highlight sustainable cultivation or innovative processing methods.
Innovation and Experimentation
Thanks to the 7 kg roaster, nano-lots and limited editions appear regularly. The sister brand Varietals Coffee, launched in 2018, serves as an R&D platform for new origins and roast profiles. Direct import of micro-lots, for example Brazil Jaguara, provides control over storage and freshness. Competition roasts for baristas and their own participation in Brewers Cup competitions, Michel took second and Tosca third in 2022, continually sharpen their craftsmanship.
Quality as Culture
All beans are specialty grade and are purchased directly from farmers whenever possible. Jan and Tosca visit plantations every year, select micro-lots on site and assess every delivery themselves through cupping. The team consists exclusively of SCA-certified professionals, that expertise ensures that every step, from green bean to espresso shot, meets strict standards.
Packaging and Private Label
Fresh beans get a resealable bag with a one-way valve to preserve aroma. Labels show origin, variety, process and tasting notes, plus brewing advice. Businesses can opt for private-label branding, a service that offers marketing opportunities without compromising on flavor.
Future Vision
After more than twenty years, CoffeeXperts feels the adventure is only just beginning. Expansion of the “Future Proof” range, research into recyclable packaging and new origin trips are on the agenda. Consultancy projects in countries such as Mongolia, Georgia and Egypt show that West Frisian know-how is now valued worldwide. Growth, however, remains inseparably linked to sustainability and close ties with producers.
Closing thought
CoffeeXperts proves that modern technology, artisanal mastery and respect for people and planet together create a taste experience that stays with enthusiasts. Every roast tells the story of engaged farmers, sharp craftspeople and curious customers. That makes every sip not only delicious, but meaningful too.
