More About Buena Vista

Origin and farm

Buena Vista comes from Huila, Colombia, grown by Maricela Joven Penagos. The farm spans just two hectares near Guadalupe, at 1 750 metres above sea level. It’s a direct-trade microlot spotlighting first-generation production. Coocentral supports improved fermentation and drying under marquesinas there. The coordinates of the farm are 2°02′48.5″ N, 75°45′48.3″ W.

Roast profile

The coffee is offered as a light-roast filter option that preserves bright, clean flavours. Keen Coffee ships the roast fresh, delivered Monday through Thursday. The roast style reflects their usual profile: light, bright and fruit-forward, rather than dark or heavy.

Flavor and aroma

Expect creamy hazelnut, sticky maple syrup, and a bright cherry finish. The cup remains smooth and balanced, comforting yet refined. These tasting notes bring both sweetness and clarity to the cup.

Processing method

The beans undergo a washed process on the farm. That means cherries are pulped, fermented, rinsed, then dried—yielding that clean, bright clarity in the cup.

Variety / species

Buena Vista features two Arabica varieties: Pink Bourbon and Papayo. These varieties grow alongside each other at nearly 1 750 metres, offering delicate yet vivid flavour qualities.

Sustainability and ethics

The supply chain is traceable via direct-trade—buying straight from Maricela ensures fairness. Support from Coocentral’s smallholder project enables quality improvements and sustainable drying. This model builds both ethical sourcing and long-term relationships. Keen Coffee highlights transparency by naming the producer and origin clearly on the package.

Brewing recommendations

Filter brew is recommended, to keep the light roast’s brightness intact. Precise method tips are not supplied, but standard pour-over or drip will highlight hazelnut and syrup notes well. The clean profile suggests avoiding heavy immersion to retain balance.

Awards or ratings

No formal awards or scores are listed for this lot. Instead, the coffee stands on clarity of origin and traceable quality rather than third-party accolades.

Packaging design

Packaging clearly states producer name, region, varieties, process, altitude and tasting notes. That design choice reinforces transparency and education. The clean layout matches the clean cup profile and microlot story.

Availability and price

Keen Coffee sells Buena Vista ground or whole-bean in 250 g or 1 000 g sizes. Pricing isn’t shown on the product page, but similar single-origin offerings at Keen start around €12 and go higher. It ships within the Netherlands mid-week for fastest freshness.
