More About Noord Coffee Roasters

Introduction

Noord Coffee Roasters from Veghel has shown since 2015 how flavor, sustainability, and growth can coexist. The family business roasts small batches each week, now supplies more than 150 organizations and thus provides over 2.4 million cups per year. The roastery uses a modern Giesen with capacity for 100,000 kg of beans, yet maintains a handcrafted approach. Thanks to this mix of scale and craftsmanship, Brabant now enjoys coffee with character and a future.

Origin and Growth

Founder Marc van Berkel first worked eight years under the famous hourglass on the Noordkade, where his espresso bar gained local fame. When demand grew, the focus shifted to roasting for companies, hospitality and schools. The mission stayed the same: "the taste of the past, the quality of today." Noord stood out as "Brabant's tastiest coffee" and grew step by step nationwide. Today the brand is often called the coffee partner for organizations that care about both taste and social impact.

Roasting Method and Technology

Noord deliberately chooses a light American Roast. That profile preserves more natural aromas and prevents bitter notes. Each batch is carefully tested, with temperature curves tracked digitally and then cupped for flavour. The team roasts only 100% Arabica with a minimum cupping score of 83, so each bean clearly shows its origin. By buying directly, the chain remains short and quality stays high.

Flavor Profiles and Blends

The range includes sixteen own blends plus a series of single origins from, among others, Ethiopia, Brazil and Tanzania. The light roast gives fruity Ethiopian beans floral notes, while a Brazilian bean retains a nutty sweetness. Customers especially appreciate the award-winning Usawa-blend, developed with master roaster Willem Boot and valued for its powerful but honest flavour. Each coffee is designed for clarity in espresso, filter and fully automatic machines.

Packaging Innovation

Sustainability doesn't stop at the bean. Noord saves thousands of disposable bags every year by using reusable containers and compostable packaging. The result stands out on the shelf: a sleek metal tin or kraft bag immediately communicates "green choice".
  • Deposit bins for offices keep 40,000 plastic bags out of the waste stream.
  • Compostable bags and recyclable labels further reduce residual waste.
  • Refurbished espresso machines show that reuse can be both stylish and functional.
  • Clear typography underscores transparency about origin and quality.

Team and Culture

The team consists of skilled roasters, baristas and technicians who provide 24/7 service. Inclusion is central; people who face barriers to the labor market, for example, package the coffee. That diversity brings new ideas and strengthens mutual commitment. Workshops for customers and enthusiasts share that passion, helping the Veghel region develop a lively coffee community.

Direct Trade and Impact

Noord buys beans directly from farmers like Luiz van Happy Hill in Brazil or partners in Tanzania. By paying on average five euros per kilo above the market price, producers gain room for sustainable cultivation and better living conditions. Customers taste that effort in a cleaner, more consistent cup. The roaster also donates one percent of revenue to projects focused on the environment, education and local economies, completing the circle of fair coffee.

Experiments and Specials

A micro-roastery mentality enables continuous innovation. Small test batches explore new harvests, varieties or fermentation methods such as anaerobic processing. Each year more than 2,000 visitors attend a workshop and give direct feedback on sample roasts. Limited 'Fair Beans' editions, for example from the Happy Hill plantation, bring special flavors and stories to the market.

Looking Ahead

After acquiring Usawa Coffee, Noord further expands its range and targets offices across the Netherlands. Extra roasting capacity and a larger sales team support that goal. At the same time, a nostalgic delivery pilot with cargo bikes is launched to bring freshly roasted beans personally to local customers. Noord is also exploring IoT machines that predict malfunctions and simplify maintenance, so customers always serve perfect coffee.

Closing thought

Noord Coffee Roasters proves that flavor, scale and social value can grow together. With light roasts, fair sourcing and smart innovation, the brand remains an inspiring example within the Dutch coffee sector.
