More About Amstel Koffie
A New Player: Amstel Koffie
A new coffee roastery is active in Amstelveen: Amstel Koffie. The founder, Jan, started this company out of a deep passion for coffee. He roasts small batches to emphasize the unique character of each bean. The company is officially registered as No Treble Coffee. Sales are conducted exclusively direct-to-consumer via a webshop.
Roasting Philosophy and Flavor Profiles
The focus is strongly on artisanal, medium-roasted coffee. The goal is an optimal balance between acidity, sweetness, body, and aroma. Everything is roasted fresh to order. This guarantees maximum freshness and flavor for the customer. The packaging is primarily available in 250 gram and 1 kilo sizes.
The current assortment consists of sixteen different variants. There is one clear exception to the predominantly medium roasting: the ‘Donker Afrika’ from Uganda. This dark roast offers powerful flavors of dark chocolate and stewed fruit.
The roastery’s house blend is called Parfait. For a small webshop, the composition of this blend is remarkably transparent:
40% Brazilië
30% Uganda
20% Honduras
10% El Salvador (anaerobic)
Parfait combines a full body with a base of chocolate and nuts. The addition from El Salvador provides a fruity, syrupy finish. For true connoisseurs, there is also a Honduras Geisha from Finca Jerusalen. This exceptional coffee is promoted with an impressive SCA score of 92.
Sustainability and Origin
Amstel Koffie positions itself with the clear slogan “koffie met respect”. The origin of the beans is specific and well-documented. The selection includes beans from at least five countries: Brazilië, Honduras, El Salvador, Uganda, and Colombia. For example, the Brazilian bean comes directly from the Fazenda Pedra Pretra estate.
The Colombia Decaf from Finca La Palmera directly supports an important water project. This Sucafina initiative has been financing clean water systems in Colombia since 2023. It helps seventy farming families in Los Medios and three hundred students in Norte de Santander. According to reports, gastrointestinal infections in Los Medios dropped directly from fifteen percent to zero thanks to this installation.
Logistics and Online Development
Customers can easily order their coffee online. Those who order before 20:00 on business days can expect same-day shipping. Delivery typically follows the next business day in Nederland, België, Duitsland, and other European countries. Physical pickup of orders is not possible. Payment is handled smoothly via well-known systems such as iDEAL, PayPal, Maestro, Visa, and Belfius.
The business still shows some growing pains online. Certain parts of the website still contain standard design templates or unrelated text. For instance, there is temporary placeholder text about punching bags on the returns page. Additionally, contradictory information regarding exact delivery times can sometimes be found in the FAQs. This indicates a brand in development, where the focus remains entirely on the artisanal coffee product for now.
