More About Beans & Blends

The Rise of a Groningen Roastery
Beans & Blends started in February 2024 as a modest garage project. Armed with an old espresso machine and plenty of curiosity, the founders wanted to solve a problem. They discovered that much of the commercial coffee was already months old by the time the consumer opened the bag. This insight led to the establishment of their own roastery in Groningen.
Today, the company operates as a Vennootschap onder firma. The main office is located on the Akerkstraat in Groningen. With two to five employees, the business operates under the names Beans & Blends and Koffie Service Noord. Public business records list Dylan Liam van der Spoel and R. van Blaauw as the involved parties. The company does not currently share specific details regarding the leadership team or a head roaster.
Extreme Freshness as a Philosophy
The brand’s core pillar is unparalleled freshness. The roastery roasts beans exclusively in small batches, after which the coffee is immediately and carefully packaged. To make this promise transparent, every package bears a clear roast date. This ensures that the consumer experiences the coffee at the absolute peak of its aroma and flavor.
The green coffee beans are sourced from sustainable and fair farmers. Raw materials are supplied by countries such as Ethiopia, Colombia, Brazil, Honduras, Vietnam, and India. Which specific plantations or cooperatives are involved is not public knowledge. Formal organic or fairtrade certifications are also absent from the available documentation.
Two Signature Blends
The roastery’s portfolio relies on two carefully composed blends. Both flavors are available in 500-gram and one-kilogram bags. The webshop also offers small sample packs. An online taste quiz helps customers find their perfect match.

Mocca Magic: Launched in 2024 as the first official blend. This is a 100% Arabica coffee with beans from Brazil, Honduras, and Ethiopia. The flavor profile is smooth, sweet, and accessible. Drinkers will experience notes of milk chocolate, light nuts, and subtle fruit. In 2025, the packaging underwent a complete redesign.
Dark Desire: Introduced in 2026 for those who prefer a bolder cup. This blend combines Arabica and Robusta from Vietnam, India, and Brazil. The result is powerful, intense, and dark. Tasting notes of dark chocolate and subtle spices provide a full body.

Brewing Advice and the B2B Market
Beans & Blends is happy to guide users with technical brewing guidelines. For an optimal espresso, they recommend 18 grams of ground coffee and a yield of 36 grams. The ideal extraction time lies between 25 and 30 seconds. For filter coffee, the roaster uses a ratio of 1:16. Mocca Magic is a versatile choice for both espresso and filter. Dark Desire excels in powerful espressos and milk-based drinks such as cappuccinos and lattes.
The brand serves both the home barista and the commercial market. Through a dedicated portal, hospitality businesses and offices can easily request a personalized quote. The communication focuses on finding a flavor profile that perfectly aligns with the company. Mocca Magic is explicitly positioned for home use, offices, and the hospitality sector.
Visibility in the Coffee Sector
The online presence of the Groningen-based roastery is growing steadily. The Instagram account has over 250 followers and profiles the company as a specialty coffee roastery. Despite this positioning, significant media attention is still lacking. Renowned coffee platforms such as Sprudge or Perfect Daily Grind had not published articles about the brand up until March 2026.
Beans & Blends opts for an efficient and local approach. Public transparency reports, lists of commercial clients, or technical specifications of the roasting machine are absent from the website. The primary focus lies entirely on delivering fresh and fair coffee.
