More About Cantina van Jongkind

Cantina van Jongkind: a coffee roastery within a broader hospitality concept

Cantina van Jongkind has been located at Zeugstraat 28 in Gouda since July 5, 2025. The current concept combines a restaurant, wine bar, and coffee roastery in one location. The business was transferred to Robby Krist on June 1, 2025, who is publicly listed as the owner and initiator. Cantina van Jongkind B.V. was established in 2025 and is registered under KvK number 97249688.

From Hofje to Cantina

The location has a history as Hofje van Jongkind. That business was led by Sandhya Dijkstal and Eugène van der Meij from approximately 2018. The older roastery page mentions “Anno 2018” and describes how home roasting in an attic grew into a professional roastery. That roastery was located at the back of the historic Hofje van Jongkind, a courtyard dating back to 1702.

Krist cited as the reason for the new concept his desire to combine his interests in people, music, food, and hospitality. This gave the existing coffee activity a place within a broader hospitality business. No public information has been recorded about other founders of the current enterprise.

On-site Roasting

Cantina states that the coffee is roasted in Gouda. The company uses light roast profiles and gives each profile individual attention. The business imports green coffee, creates its own compositions or blends, and roasts them at the location on Zeugstraat.

Older information from Hofje van Jongkind mentions a Giesen coffee roaster and a La Marzocco Strada espresso machine. The type of Giesen roaster and the batch capacity are not specified. Data on roast software, annual volume, cupping procedures, and the name of a head roaster are also missing from the public documentation.

Assortment and Origin

The current house blend contains coffee from Brazil, Honduras, and El Salvador, supplemented by unspecified origins. Current names of single origins, harvest years, processing methods, and packaging sizes are not publicly described.

An older order form from Hofje van Jongkind lists nineteen coffees. Among them are Espresso Hofje, Brazil Cerrado, Brazil Yellow Bourbon, Colombia Supremo, Ethiopia Sidamo, and India Monsooned Malabar AA. Other names include Mexico Finca Monte Azul, Rwanda AA, and Tanzania Kilimanjaro. It has not been confirmed whether these coffees are still available at Cantina van Jongkind.

The older collection was typically offered as whole beans or ground coffee. Pack sizes of 0.25, 0.5, and 1 kilogram were standard at the time. The predecessor stated that they exclusively roasted Arabica from multiple countries. The current website mentions imports from countries worldwide but does not name a specific importer or sourcing route.

Transparency and Sustainability

Limited public information is available regarding the supply chain. The names of current producers, cooperatives, importers, and wholesale buyers are not documented. There are also no public records regarding producer prices, direct trade, or transparency reports.

The same applies to certifications and environmental policies. There is no public data on organic certification, Fairtrade, Rainforest Alliance, or B Corp status. Information on packaging, recycling, production waste, energy consumption, emission targets, and climate reporting is also absent.

Sales, hospitality, and events

Coffee is roasted and served in the establishment itself. The predecessor sold beans to private individuals and hospitality businesses, with pickup and shipping within the Netherlands. The current website does not feature an active coffee webshop, subscription service, or list of retail locations.

The homepage lists lunch from 11:00 to 16:00, dinner from 17:00 to 22:00, and wine bar service until midnight. It states that the venue is open seven days a week. However, another menu page lists lunch from Tuesday through Sunday, meaning the published hours do not fully align.

The venue also hosts music and public gatherings. During the Gouda Jazz Festival on June 26 and 27, 2026, several jazz ensembles were scheduled. In September 2025, a public care event took place featuring House of Representatives member Wieke Paulusma. Coffee workshops, barista courses, and regular cuppings are not publicly announced.

Team and public recognition

In addition to owner Robby Krist, Julia Harteveld and Annabelle van Koert are publicly listed as staff. Harteveld mentions work in hospitality and photography. Van Koert describes her role as hostess and service staff. Melanie Boegheim is listed as an employee without a public job title.

Cantina received the highest participant rating during the WijnSpijs walks in September 2025 and April 2026. These results pertained to restaurant visits and wine-food pairings, not coffee quality. Coffee-specific awards or trade publications are not publicly documented.
