Kaffeetaria

Kaffeetaria is a specialty coffee bar located at Croeselaan 207 in Utrecht’s Dichterswijk neighborhood. The venue combines coffee service with food, flexible workspaces, group areas, exhibitions, and activities. This combination aligns with the original community-focused concept of founders Floortje Minjon and Jeffrey de Vries. The current information has been updated as of June 19, 2026.

Kaffeetaria opened in 2019 in the former canteen of the Tolsteeg residential care complex on Saffierlaan. For Minjon, it was her first independent business. De Vries was already active as a hospitality entrepreneur in Utrecht and is also associated with De Bierkantine, Feu, and Bar Barak.

The original concept centered on a low-threshold meeting place for various groups from the neighborhood. Among others, families, students, seniors, and business groups used the location. Minjon also linked this approach to the temporary use of buildings and entrepreneurship focused on the local area.

The location on Croeselaan opened in 2022 and is currently the venue listed on the official website. The space offers, in addition to regular seating, options for working and meetings. As a result, the venue serves more functions than just the sale and preparation of coffee.

For its regular coffee, the Croeselaan location uses beans from White Label Coffee in Amsterdam. A social media post also mentions coffee from Sprout Coffee Roasters on a second grinder. This mention suggests an additional or rotating bean, but does not confirm Sprout as the permanent main roaster.

The drink menu includes both espresso and filter coffee. Guests can choose from a double espresso, americano, batch brew, and V60 filter coffee. A pot of 500 milliliters of filter coffee is also on the menu. These options show that manual and larger filter preparations are offered alongside espresso drinks.

Milk-based drinks include cappuccino, large cappuccino, flat white, and caffe latte. The menu also lists an iced latte and an espresso tonic. As a result, the available preparations range from concentrated espresso to cold drinks and filter coffee.

The programming consists of recurring activities and temporary exhibitions. In April 2026, the photography exhibition “More than desired” by photographer Dorien B. began. The exhibition features four rainbow families and received support from the Tim Meijerink Fund of Stichting PANN.

In addition, KaffeeVelo is on the agenda as a monthly cycling activity. The rides are organized and guided by cyclists from Dr. Velo. In 2025, a monthly clay café on Sundays, a cycling group, and plans for new coffee tastings were also mentioned.

Kaffeetaria participates in Kop voor Nop, a Utrecht system for deferred coffee or tea. The menu lists a free coffee for the recipient. Other customers can pay €2.50 for a drink for someone else. The program targets residents with limited financial means.

The business has offered workspaces at various times to people with a distance from the labor market. During the restrictions on hospitality businesses in 2020, Kaffeetaria also made space available to restaurant Rabarber and bakery Kontjes & Sneetjes.

The building houses De Garage, a separate space for meetings, training, workshops, and brainstorming sessions. The maximum group size is twenty people. This facility fits within the broader function as a work and meeting place.

The Utrecht bakery Lavett supplies sourdough bread, croissants, cinnamon rolls, and cardamom rolls. The Croeselaan is also a pickup point for bread from Lavett. Landzicht Biologisch lists the address as a pickup point for organic vegetable and fruit subscriptions. The latter shows a logistical collaboration, but does not prove that these products are used in the kitchen.
