More About Ami's coffee roastery
From Hospitality to Coffee Roastery
In February 2023, Ami’s coffee roastery, founded by former bartender Ami, officially opened its doors in Nijmegen. What began as a passionate hobby within the hospitality industry quickly evolved into a professional venture. Operating from Malderburchtstraat, public records indicate the business currently has one employee. This small-scale, personal approach highlights the founder’s dedication to the craft of coffee.
Philosophy and the Roasting Process
As a specialty coffee roastery, Ami’s focuses entirely on ‘single-origin’ beans rather than a broad café concept. The roastery consciously prioritizes high quality over quantity. To guarantee ultimate freshness, coffee is roasted weekly in small batches. Each new shipment of green beans is carefully tested and refined by the founder to achieve the perfect flavor. The continuous focus is on perfecting the roast profile and ensuring fast shipping to the customer.
The Assortment: From Accessible to Adventurous
The public offering is built around unique origins rather than standard flagship blends. Freshly roasted coffees are available via the webshop in 250 gram and 1 kilo bags. Some notable names from the current assortment include:
Morning: A medium roast from Cerrado Mineiro, Brazil (800-1,300 meters). With notes of chocolate, hazelnut, and dried fruit, this is the perfect ‘crowd-pleaser’.
Enigma: A microlot from Jaén, Peru (1,600-2,000 meters). This coffee offers floral notes, citrus, and cocoa, and also performs excellently in milk-based drinks.
Awaken: Coming from a family farm in Bababudangiri, India. This light roast is ideal for those new to specialty coffee and undergoes a special ‘honey’ process.
Bliss: A Nicaraguan bean from Dipilto. Due to the anaerobic fermentation, this coffee is particularly popular among visitors of specialty coffee bars.
Business Services and B2B Offerings
Beyond direct sales to consumers, Ami’s also actively serves the business market. Offices, various hospitality venues, and shops can source their fresh coffee directly from the roastery. To facilitate this, the company offers fixed supply contracts and even the option for a ’private-label’ house blend under their own brand name. If requested, customers receive their coffee pre-ground to a specific setting for espresso, French press, or filter. Additionally, the roastery advises clients on the right choice and installation of various coffee machines and brewing solutions.
Sustainability and Future Vision
The roastery strives for responsible sourcing, with great care for the farmers and the environment. The company operates with relatively low margins, with profits flowing directly back into improving the quality of the product. To combat unnecessary food waste, Ami’s offers older stocks of specialty coffee at a discount via Too Good To Go. Although the company is still very much in development, its public presence on platforms like Instagram is growing steadily. However, the core mission remains unchanged: delivering artisanal, weekly fresh coffee with a transparent story.
