Jones Brothers Coffee was founded in Amsterdam in 2013 by Welsh entrepreneur Richard Jones. About ten years earlier, he had started Coffee Planet in Dubai with his brother. According to its own description, the Amsterdam-based company focused on specialty coffee, better incomes for coffee farmers, and a lower environmental impact.

The company operated from Sint Willibrordusstraat 54H in the De Pijp neighbourhood of Amsterdam. The associated legal entity, Jones Brothers Coffee Company B.V., was declared bankrupt on November 18, 2025. The court terminated the proceedings on May 19, 2026, due to a lack of available assets.

Roasting profiles and brewing methods

The documented assortment consists of coffee made from 100% arabica beans. This includes espresso blends and single-origin coffees for espresso or filter brewing. The roasting profiles used vary by product and desired brewing method.

The Brazil Cerrado and Ethiopia Sidamo from the 2024 harvest were given a medium roast. Italian Lover is described as a dark-roasted blend. For naturally processed Ethiopian coffee, the company typically used medium to medium-light profiles, alongside some darker variants.

Well-known blends include The Big Shot, Italian Lover, and The Awakening. In addition, various single-region coffees were released. Horny Goat – Ethiopia Sidamo came from Bombe Farm, at an altitude of 2,100 to 2,350 meters. The 2024 harvest received a stated cupping score of 88.

The Brazil – Single Origin came from Daterra in the Cerrado region. The coffee grew at an altitude of 1,000 to 1,200 meters and was processed using the honey method. A cupping score of 81 was listed for this 2024 harvest. Grutta Arabica was named as the variety.

The countries of origin in the public offering include Brazil, Costa Rica, Ethiopia, Honduras, Mexico, Peru, Rwanda, and Thailand. A previous Ethiopian purchase involved the Ye Gennet washing station of producer Tsegaye Hagos and small farmers from the Gedeo community.

A project in Thailand connected the Doi Saket cooperative with exporter Beanspire Coffee and importer This Side Up Coffees. These names provide insight into parts of the supply chain, but a complete overview of suppliers has not been published.

Capsules and sustainability claims

The capsule range included Gigolo, Enigma, Revive, and Natural Decaf. The published intensity ranged from six to ten on a scale of ten. The company stated that the current compatible capsules were plant-based, plastic-free, biodegradable, and home-compostable.

Fairtrade Netherlands reported in 2020 the introduction of a fully compostable capsule with organic coffee. Rainforest Alliance certification and a Climate Neutral designation were mentioned for two business dark-roast blends. The exact scope and reporting period of these claims were not included in the available data.

The procurement policy outlined a commitment to more direct and transparent trade. Payments under this policy were intended to contribute to a livable income for producers. However, figures regarding emissions, energy, water, packaging, and waste management have not been publicly documented.

Retail, hospitality, and corporate supply

Jones Brothers sold coffee beans, ground coffee, capsules, equipment, and accessories through a multilingual online store. The range also included plant-based drinks from Sproud and DRYK. The business division supplied coffee, machines, and service to offices, the hospitality industry, hotels, and sports clubs.

One of the machines offered was the Jura Professional Giga X3/c, designed for approximately 150 to 200 cups per day. The bean hopper had a capacity of 1,000 grams. Historical company records list clients in the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

Espresso bars, collaborations, and the team

The address in De Pijp also housed a small espresso bar serving prepared coffee, beans, and capsules. The current operating status has not been independently confirmed following the insolvency proceedings. In 2017, a House of Tribes Café also opened at the Turfmarkt in The Hague.

The first café offered coffee, tea, homemade pastries, and a reservable table for fourteen people. Tribes also mentions a House of Tribes location at The Hague Central, featuring meals, drinks, and space for gatherings.

Richard Jones remained the publicly named founder and spokesperson. Chrystele Velayoudon was named marketing director in 2019. Alvina Chu and Eddy Tran Ho were later associated with the company online, without confirmed current roles. No current head roaster, production manager, or buyer has been publicly named.
