More About Roast Factory

The Founding of a Den Haag Micro-roastery
Roast Factory began in 2016 with a clear mission in Den Haag. Founder Stefan Coster wanted to convince the city of what true specialty coffee is all about. After years of working in various coffee shops, he launched this local micro-roastery.
The brand is entirely centered around high quality, transparency, and sustainability. The team has been intentionally kept small. Without endless meetings or complex management layers, the roastery is able to make fast and efficient decisions.
Direct Trade and Fair Prices
The roastery sources its coffee directly from farmers and long-term partners. They share the full story behind every harvest, including an open price breakdown. Roast Factory pays farmers an average of thirty percent more than the standard Fair Trade price.
The company consciously chooses to avoid paid certifications. Such labels do not necessarily guarantee an improvement in quality. Instead, the buyers regularly visit the farmers to discuss climate change, agroforestry, and irrigation.
This is how the roastery met Lenin Tocto in 2022 and visited his family in December 2023. Additionally, the company works closely with producers such as Luiz Paulo and the Ramírez-Navarro family.
Profiles and Signature Blends
The assortment offers various options for espresso and filter coffee. The RF Blend from Colombia and Brazil is a vibrant espresso with notes of florals, plum, and black tea. In contrast, the Classic Blend from Costa Rica and Brazil offers a creamy, full-bodied flavor with spices and sweet chocolate.
Additionally, the brand offers unique single origins, each with its own story. For example, the Adiela Colombia honors 85-year-old farmer Adiela Argote. This washed coffee features notes of caramel, plum, and black tea.
Another prominent example is the Tocto Peru from Cajamarca, with flavors of green apple, cardamom, and syrup. Furthermore, the Bombe washing station in Ethiopia provides the Haro Wachu omni-roast. More than eight hundred farmers contribute to this fruity coffee with notes of peach and jasmine.
The Roasting Process and the Coffee Bar
Production takes place on a handmade Dutch Giesen W15 coffee roaster. The roastery’s motto is that coffee should taste good and feel good. Every week, the team carefully tests and tastes all new batches.
Consumers can experience the coffee at Brouwersgracht 4L in Den Haag. This location has a rich history; since 1920, it was already home to the historic coffee trade of Reuser and Smulders.
The coffee bar serves as a direct showroom for their own products. Visitors are welcome to watch the roasting process live on Mondays and Fridays. Baristas Sonya and Thedros are on hand throughout the week and weekends to ensure the coffee is served at its absolute best.
Wholesale, Education, and Sustainability
Roast Factory also supplies restaurants, offices, and other coffee bars. Wholesale partners benefit from free barista training and independent advice on equipment. The roastery knows the renowned machines from Sanremo, La Marzocco, and Wega inside out.
Businesses can order easily via a personal link without binding supplier contracts. Every Wednesday, Roast Factory delivers weekly orders by cargo bike. They use reusable coffee buckets and recyclable boxes to minimize waste.
The roastery recently switched to stronger, recyclable packaging. The previous bags made from sugarcane and corn proved to be compostable only under industrial conditions. Additionally, the company enjoys sharing knowledge through three specialized workshops:

Roast Your Own: Up to two participants learn the basics of coffee roasting in a two-hour session on Fridays.
Barista Workshop: This two-hour session covers espresso extraction, milk steaming, and latte art for a maximum of five people.
Latte Art Workshop: A specialized training session, also with a maximum group size of five people.

Local Roots and Reputation
Roast Factory explicitly positions itself as a local player, devoid of sales pitches or hype. The roastery primarily serves customers within a small radius around Den Haag. Their ultimate goal is to provide a transparent space where everyone feels welcome.
Local media and platforms praise their dedication to bringing fairer coffee to the city. The focus always remains on personal attention and maintaining fair prices, even as global market prices for coffee continue to rise structurally.
