About Vlaamsch Broodhuys Den Bosch Vughterstraat
History and Concept
Vlaamsch Broodhuys Den Bosch Vughterstraat is located at Vughterstraat 76 in the inner city of ‘s-Hertogenbosch. The Baker’s Café opened in 2015 and was the company’s first location outside the Randstad. A municipal notice from that year mentions the start of a hospitality business at this address. Design studio Ninetynine also dates the interior project to June 2015.
The location has no separately published founders. The parent company was established in 1996 by Dimitri and Diante Roels. They initially baked and delivered the sourdough bread themselves. Dimitri Roels was born in Sluis, Zeeuws-Vlaanderen. According to the company, he gained work experience in restaurant kitchens in the Netherlands, Belgium, and France. He then focused on baking bread. Diante Roels completed a hotel school program in Tilburg and played an organizing role in the development of the business.
The Baker’s Café combines a bakery shop with a hospitality venue. Visitors can come for breakfast, lunch, brunch, high tea, and drinks. The company describes this type of location as a neighborhood bakery and a meeting place. Sourdough bread is the central product within the business concept. In ‘s-Hertogenbosch, a worstenbroodje is also on the menu, prepared with a chipolata sausage in bread dough.
Coffee and Brewing
The coffee beans come from Bocca Coffee Roasters. Vlaamsch Broodhuys and Bocca developed a house blend at the corporate level. Available research does not link this collaboration exclusively to the location in ‘s-Hertogenbosch. On the delivery menu for the Vughterstraat location, the coffee is described as a Fairtrade house blend. The beans are also offered there in 250-gram packages.
The current menu focuses primarily on espresso and espresso-based drinks. The offering includes espresso, double espresso, regular coffee, Americano, and cortado. Additionally, espresso macchiato, flat white, cappuccino, caffè latte, latte macchiato, and caffè mocha are on the menu. For cold preparations, the menu lists iced coffee and iced latte. Chai latte and hot chocolate are also included.
Manual filter methods are not mentioned. The menu does not list pour-over, AeroPress, French press, or Chemex. As a result, the documented emphasis is on preparations made with an espresso machine. No public information is available regarding individual bean choices, rotating single origins, or specific brewing recipes for this location.
Community role and activities
According to the company description, the location serves as a meeting place in the neighborhood. High tea is a regularly offered service but is not described as a workshop or tasting. Vlaamsch Broodhuys has separate Huyskamer spaces in some other cities for meetings and private gatherings. This reservation option is not available at the location on Vughterstraat.
The location has historically been associated with several local events. During carnival in 2024, adjusted opening hours applied, and tompoucen were sold in the red, white, and yellow colors of Oeteldonk. In November 2020, the location served as a pickup point for a takeaway box from restaurant Le Pristine. Workshops, coffee tastings, and exhibitions at this specific location are not publicly documented.
Origin and Sustainability
According to its own information, Vlaamsch Broodhuys uses Too Good To Go to sell a portion of the remaining bread. This measure applies at the corporate level. Available data does not specify under what conditions each individual location participates. Information on energy use, packaging, emissions, or waste streams for the location in ‘s-Hertogenbosch is also missing.
Regarding bread, the company announced in June 2026 that its Campremy wheat is exclusively grown on its own farm in France. A family business then processes the wheat in a mill. This concerns the general supply of the company and is not a separate arrangement for the Vughterstraat location.
For coffee, the supplier role is held by Bocca. This roaster describes a purchasing model with long-term relationships with farmers, technical support for cultivation, and the payment of what Bocca considers fair prices. Bocca is registered as a certified B Corporation. This certification applies to the supplier and not to the café. Café Couture is named as the tea partner for high tea.
Mentions and recognition
The location was featured in various local and industry-specific listings. HighTea.nl included the café in a March 2020 overview of high-tea venues in Den Bosch. Bossche Buik mentioned Vlaamsch Broodhuys in 2021 as part of a selection of shops focused on food and drink. Additionally, the interior project is featured in the portfolio of Ninetynine. No formal awards specifically granted to this Den Bosch location have been publicly documented.
