Kuub Coffee

Kuub Coffee is a small specialty bar in the heart of Rotterdam, located directly beneath the Cube Houses near Blaak and Markthal. The shop opened quietly in late December 2023 and positions itself as a neighborhood spot with a focus on craft and hospitality. The bar measures approximately 15–18 square meters, a conscious choice made to guarantee personalized service.

The bar was founded by Dean, full name Dean Nguyen, a Rotterdam barista with a long-standing passion for specialty coffee. The concept centers on small-scale operations and precision behind the bar. Due to the compact footprint, the owner can run the shop solo and give every guest dedicated attention. The approach is manual, transparent, and focused on the taste experience of every single cup.

Shortly after the launch, Roos joined the team to handle social content and illustrations. This addition strengthened the brand voice and visual profile, giving Kuub a warm, local feel that fits perfectly within the creative environment surrounding Blaak and Markthal. The result is a recognizable identity that links craftsmanship with a sense of community.

Kuub works with a rotation of Rotterdam “local hero” roasters. Guests will find names like Shokunin, Manhattan Coffee Roasters, Man Met Bril, and Ripsnorter on the menu. The focus is on single-origin and seasonal filter options, ensuring the flavor profiles of local roasters shine through. In doing so, the bar offers a tasting of the city in a cup.

The preparation is distinctly artisanal. V60 pour-over takes a prominent place alongside espresso and milk drinks. Photos and local descriptions particularly emphasize the hand-poured filter coffees. Additionally, there are crowd-pleasing specials, such as matcha lattes, as well as seasonal drinks and pastries that provide variety for both locals and tourists.

The collaboration with Shokunin is clearly visible in the beans served and social posts. This connection aligns with values such as traceability and flavor-driven roast profiles. The choice of local specialty roasters indicates a preference for ethically minded supply chains over anonymous commodity beans. At the same time, Kuub is clear about reuse: the bar offers reusable drinkware and sells bottled items and to-go cups to reduce waste.
