More About Keppler Koffie
Introduction
Coffee moves fast, yet craftsmanship remains the foundation of every great cup.
In Amsterdam-Noord, Keppler Koffie demonstrates how local roasting creates real value.
This story outlines the evolution, the flavors, and the plans—concise and to the point.
A Brief History
In 2012, Kees Kraakman started Stadsbranderij Noord as a pop-up; strong demand kept it going.
In June 2017, Café Keppler followed at Van der Pekstraat 1, in partnership with Mike Lubben.
The roastery name then shifted to Keppler Koffie to align with the café.
In 2025, the rebrand to Koffie van Kees (& Jane) arrived at Meteorenweg 280, located at NoordOogst.
Roast Philosophy and Technique
The roasts are produced on Giesen machines in the open roastery at NoordOogst.
Visitors can watch the process, while Cropster monitors the curves to ensure repeatable quality.
Every coffee is given its own profile for espresso or filter, clearly indicated.
Freshness is key; roasting happens weekly, and grinding fresh is highly recommended.
Standout Blends and Singles
The core line combines recognizable flavors with transparent specifications and competitive pricing.
Below are the most striking choices for both the bar and the home brewer.
– Noord house blend, €9.50 per 250g, 70% Brazilië Esperança, 30% Peru Churumpampa; espresso notes of chocolate and almond, with a citrus finish.
– Zuid house blend, €9.50 per 250g, 70% Esperança, 15% Sumatra Raja Gayo, 15% India Craigmore Kattimuti robusta; roasted darker for milk, full-bodied and creamy.
– Brazilië Esperança, €10 per 250g, natural, 1100 to 1200m, Catucaí SL 2; filter brew reveals hazelnut and chocolate, while espresso remains full and creamy.
– Ethiopië Gesha Village, crop 24/25, €19 per 250g; natural process offers cherry and forest fruits, washed process brings black tea, citrus, and hibiscus.
Experimental micro-lots
Experiments keep the assortment vibrant, featuring regular micro-lots and tasting sets.
– Panama La Mula Gesha, €35 per 250g, available by order only, rare and exclusive.
– Panama Los Lajones Gesha Reserve, crop 24, €25 per 250g, controlled fermentation by Graciano Cruz, fruity tension.
– Trio Gesha tasting set, 3 × 100g, €42, three origins side-by-side for home cupping.
Packaging and identification
The packaging helps you choose, with clear espresso or filter designations available in 250g and 1kg bags.
The blend names refer to Amsterdam's cardinal directions, Noord and Zuid, which speaks for itself.
The process and sometimes the harvest year are also listed on the label, such as natural or crop 24/25.
Quality and Origin
Sourcing is done directly through producers and friends, such as Bruno, Graciano, Willem, Adam, and Rachel.
Transparency is key, with details on region, altitude, and variety provided at the product level.
Esperança hails from the Cerrado, grown at altitudes of 1100 to 1200 meters, with 60 hectares of coffee across a 250-hectare estate.
Team and craftsmanship
Kees Kraakman has been working in coffee for over 25 years, trained at The Golden Coffee Box.
Jane Caldwell led the front of house at Café Keppler for years and is now a co-owner.
Mike Lubben has been overseeing hospitality and bar operations since 2017.
Community and experience
Since 2017, Café Keppler has been serving its own roasts, creating a welcoming space for the neighborhood.
At NoordOogst, you'll find guided tours, tastings, and even dinner among the beans.
Wholesale and growth
The 2025 rebrand and the location at Meteorenweg 280 mark the beginning of a new phase.
The wholesale side is growing alongside them, offering weekly deliveries in Amsterdam and on-site training.
Delivery is free for orders over 5 kg within the ring, and over 9 kg outside the ring.
The portfolio remains seasonal, featuring filter and espresso profiles alongside innovative processing methods.
Final Thoughts
Keppler Koffie blends community, craftsmanship, and transparency with distinctive flavors.
The mix of consistent blends and bold micro-lots remains relevant for both the hospitality sector and home brewers.
