Streek

Streek is a concept store with a coffee and tea service at Nieuwe Huizen 8 in the center of Assen. Annemarie and Nico Wijnberg are the owners. The shop combines home goods, gifts, plants, and vintage items with coffee, tea, and food. According to the company, the focus is on products from Drenthe and the northern Netherlands, supplemented by items whose maker or origin is known.

The story of Streek began in Vries. On November 4, 2020, Annemarie and Nico Wijnberg opened their first shop there. Both had previously worked in the theater industry. Nico Wijnberg was active as a lighting technician and also dedicated himself to restoring furniture. The shop provided space to connect this interest with home accessories, second-hand goods, and hospitality.

In February 2024, a branch opened in Assen, initially located at the corner of Nieuwe Huizen and Oudestraat. In May 2026, Streek moved to Nieuwe Huizen 8. The new location opened on May 19. The interior design and communication focus on a homely environment where visitors can shop and simultaneously enjoy coffee, tea, or food.

Streek’s coffee is supplied by Laurens Coffee and roasted in Vries. The menu features espresso, regular coffee, cappuccino, and latte. Additionally, the menu lists a “Streek special”: coffee with vanilla syrup, whipped cream, and caramel. During a visit to the previous location, coffee with oat milk was also noted. It is not publicly documented which other plant-based milk options are available.

Little information has been published regarding the technical preparation methods. The type of espresso machine is not mentioned. Manual filter methods such as V60, Chemex, and AeroPress are also not listed on the public menu. Batch brew is likewise not mentioned. Consequently, based on the available information, it cannot be determined which brewing methods are used in addition to espresso.

In addition to coffee, Streek serves organic tea from Theefabriek in Houwerzijl. The business also offers three forms of high tea. These consist of coffee or tea accompanied by various dishes. Streek states that Laurens Coffee selects fairtrade, certified, and sustainably produced beans. This is a supplier claim adopted by Streek. For food and drinks, Streek collaborates with, among others, Laurens Coffee, Meringue Sisters, Wij’n Gaard, Drentse Bijtjes, DrentsGoed, Bio Boerderij Oosting, Lekker Drenthe, Pluk ’t Leven, and Brouwerij Heft. The company states that local procurement can limit transport, plastic use, and the consumption of fossil fuels. Independently verified figures regarding these effects have not been published.

Second-hand and vintage sales are also part of the concept. Streek links this to reuse and the circular economy. According to the founders, recycled materials were used in the interior design of the original shop in Vries, including parts of an existing wooden floor. Information regarding energy consumption, waste processing, reusable cups, coffee grounds, or measured emissions is not publicly documented.

A recurring activity is “Praat & Draad”, which takes place approximately every two weeks. Participants bring their own materials for activities such as knitting, crocheting, sewing, embroidery, drawing, collage, or journaling. Coffee and tea are included. In addition to these gatherings, Streek hosts small groups for high tea. A baby shower from February 2025 was also documented on social media. Public coffee tastings, coffee workshops, and exhibitions are not documented. Furthermore, no verified trade award or other formal distinction is known.

Local media covered both the opening in Vries and the expansion to Assen. Streek is also listed in guides for shops, regional products, and hospitality venues. A shop guide still listed an old address in June 2026, while other public overviews used Nieuwe Huizen 8. The available picture is that of a mixed retail and hospitality establishment, where coffee is part of a broader concept centered on regional products, reuse, and social interaction.
